INTRODUCTION

The VXP RSS Reader is a discreet program which sits in icon form in the bottom right tray of your screen, advising you with a discreet ticket window and optionally with a cute alert sound, of news bulletins from any RSS Feeds you have installed. It comes with 4 feeds as default, news and sports from Yahoo, BBC and of course Visioxpress. You can add as many feeds as you like later. Once alerted by the software you may cancel or accept the news, and use the software to initially read the headline and its description, or continue to read the article in full. The software is totally self contained and allows you to read the article in full without having to open a browser.

DOWNLOAD

The software can be downloaded from here .

The only platform supported at present is Windows, tested on XP and Vista.

If you are downloading from internet explorer then be advised that as usual, microsoft make virtually all software appear dangerous to have in your computer, our software has not been 'verified' by microsoft yet, but fear not, there is no spyware, trojans etc and be assured it is perfectly safe to download and install.

INSTALLING

The installer will guide you through the simple install process, please ask it to run on finalizing the install (one of the options on the installer) as this will help you get started.

USING THE PROGRAM

The program is designed to work discreetly from the systray (bottom right of your screen), to open the program simply click on it and it will open allowing you select the feeds you wish to read (List on the left hand side) and then select which feed item from the list on the right hand side.

Clicking on a feed item will load the complete article into the browser area below.

Additional RSS feeds may be found throughout the internet and added from the settings page.

SETTINGS

You may access the settings from the main menu, and clicking on [File] then [Settings], whereby you will be presented with a small settings widow.

The default settings are: To add a new feed:

First browse the common RSS feeders thoughout the internet for example on sites like CNN, BBC, YAHOO, MSN etc. Once you have selected a feed, click on its RSS feed's icon then copy its URL (the address in the address bar of your browser), alternatively you could also right-click on the feed then select 'Copy Shortcut' from the popup menu.

Now that you have your Feed link copied simply paste it by doing a right-click within the text box then selecting 'paste' from the context menu (or use the keys 'CTRL' + 'V' to paste) into the top box in the settings window then click on the 'Add Feed' button.

Your selected feed will now appear in the list along with the other feeds.

If you wish to remove a feed simply click on the feed from the list and then click the 'Remove Feed' button.

Other Options

From the same window you could also activate or deactivate the alert sounds or the startup with windows options by simply selecting or deselecting the corresponding check boxes.

Once your adjustments have been made, click on the 'OK' button to close the window.

FINALLY

As the purpose of this software is not only to read the RSS Feeds but also to notify of new feeds, on closing or minimising the program, it will remain on 'standby' in the bottom right tray. To close the program definitively you will need to click 'Exit' from the [File] menu.
